Remember When Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook Secretly Married?

Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook tied the knot on May 31, 2006, but did you know their nuptials were kept a secret at first?

After Little Big Town was formed in 1998, the band released their debut, self-titled record in 2002 shortly before both Karen Fairchild divorced her then-husband. Newly single, Fairchild worked alongside her future husband for several years before they realized their true feelings for one another.

Jimi shared in an interview with GAC, “I think there was always something underlying there that we were trying to ignore,” Jimi said. “Then when the opportunity came, when all of us ended up single at the same time—a very strange turn of events for the band in a lot of different ways—those feelings, you were able to come out with them finally.”

He added, “It was like, ‘We’re single. Let’s get together.’ She has a beautiful heart, and she’s absolutely gorgeous, and I just love her dearly.”

The pair held a secret, intimate wedding ceremony in Nashville on May 31, 2006. They decided to keep it to themselves for a while before fans learned of the exciting news a couple of months later.

In an interview with US Weekly in 2010, Karen said, “I think Jimi and I had a special friendship and connection that blossomed when we were both single. Sometimes you just have to cross that line and take a chance, and when we had that opportunity, we did. Of course, we didn’t want to mess up the band, but we decided it was worth the risk.”

Nearly four years later, the pair welcomed their first and only child, Elijah Dylan Westbrook, on March 5, 2010. They have been happily married for 16 years.

“It is amazing,” Karen Fairchild shared. “Jimi is my soulmate. I knew there was a deep connection there but once you decide to be together, you find even more, and then to have a child together is a beautiful, beautiful thing for us to share and a dream come true.”
